History of Ratnavali Balika Vidyalaya Ratnawali Balika Vidyalaya was established on December 17, 1948 as a result of the establishment of Buddhist schools through Parama Vijnanartha Buddhist Company together with Sir Henry Steele Olcott and Anagarika Dharmapala. Then, Gampaha District Member of Parliament D. D. Karunaratne expressed his willingness to give the land of 21.4 acres and arrangements were made to buy this land with the donations of the local residents. On July 26, 1945, the construction work of the initial building was started on his initiative. Reverend Henry Steele Olcott The Reverend Henry Steele Olcott The school was given the name Ratnavali, meaning necklace made of gems, using the last three letters of the name of Mr. D. D.
